This is the second
Spanish ATM issue dedicated to a car manufactured by the prestigious
British company Rolls Royce; After the 2001 issue showing
the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost,
the current design show the Silver Wraith model.
After World War II, the Rolls Royce company was forced
to manufacture more economic vehicles. The first vehicle of the postwar
period was the Silver Wraith which was also the last one that
fitted customized bodies. Each customer had to contract with a carriage
maker for the construction of a personalised body. Therefore, it is
unlikely that two identical vehicles exist.
The production started very slowly in 1946, and it was limited
to less than 2000 units until 1959.
The car
illustrated on this ATM issue is a Rolls Royce Silver
Wraith of 1946, with an engine of 4250 cc. and a
maximum speed of 160 km/h.
The first owner was a laboratory in Barcelona and later
it passed to Mr. Francesc Xavier Bulto, creator of the
Spanish motorcycle company Bultaco, who ordered a new
coupé body from Catalan carriage maker Pedro
Serra.
