Fourth
issue of the
ATM set dedicated to the historical motorcycles
;
In this case dedicated to one of the most important French manufacturers,
MOTOBECANE
and their model B-44 with sidecar of 1930, 4-stroke machine
of 350 cc.
It was known as "moto
of the doctors", because it was used by many rural doctors in France
for their displacements during years ' 20 and ' 30. |
|
|
|
|
At
the beginning of 20's, Charles Benoit and Abel Bardin worked
in S.I.C.A.M. (Société Industrielle de Construction
d’Automobiles et de Moteurs).
In 1923 they created
the Motobécane mark ; the following year it appears the first
motorcycle, the MB1 with 2-stroke monocylinder engine of 175 cc.
In 1926 they create
a parallel mark, Motoconfort with which commercializes a new model,
the 308.
Motobécane
diversifies its production and in the following years they appear new models
and engines ; the Block B will be the first own motor of 4 cylinders
with versions between 175 and 500 cc. |
|
|
This
block will be replaced from 1934 with new series S (sport)
and R (route).
With the war the production
is reoriented towards the small engines and in 1945 it appears the
D45.
But the great success of
the mark arrived in 1949 with the famous Mobylette,
with a production of 14 million unit in his different versions.

In the following years they
appear new models ; the 125-LT in 1969, 350 and 500 cc. of
three cylinders in 1973, ... The company broke in 1981 and,
acquired in 1983 by the Japanese Yamaha, it continues the
production under new mark MBK.
