Tradition says that Juan
de la Cosa - navigator born in Santoña, Cantabria,
the 1450 and died in Colombia in 1510- took with himself a carving of this
image with the Nao Santa Maria in the first trip of the discovery
with Columbus, reason why is considered the first Virgin who arrived
at America.
She was crowned canonically
the August 4, 1949.
From December 7th to 9th,
1999, and included in the program of cultural activities of the 50th
Anniv. of Sta. María de Puerto Coronation, the III
Philatelic Exhibition was celebrated in Santoña
( Cantabria ), organized by the Cantabria Philatelic
Federation ( FEFICA ).

In
the occasion of the Exhibition, it was edited a commemorative
cover and the December 7th a commemorative
postmark was used. |
